🎉🥳🍾 Überragender Erfolg für die Universität Oldenburg: Alle drei Spitzenforschungsprojekte, die sich in der Exzellenzstrategie von Bund und Ländern als Exzellenzcluster beworben hatten, sind bewilligt und werden für sieben Jahre gefördert. 💪 🗨️ „Es erfüllt uns als junge Universität mit besonderem Stolz, dass alle beantragten Exzellenzcluster die internationalen Gutachterinnen und Gutachter überzeugen konnten. Das belegt einmal mehr, dass an der Universität Oldenburg Spitzenforschung auf höchstem Niveau stattfindet“, sagte Universitätspräsident Prof. Dr. Ralph Bruder. 👂 Bereits zum dritten Mal konnten die Hörforschenden von Hearing4all - Cluster of Excellence in hearing research punkten. Die beantragte Fördersumme beträgt 53,5 Millionen Euro. Die Oldenburger*innen hatten ihren Antrag erneut gemeinsam mit Hörforscher*innen von der Medizinische Hochschule Hannover und der Leibniz Universität Hannover entwickelt. 🐦 Erstmals gefördert wird der Exzellenzcluster „NaviSense“ der Oldenburger Expert*innen für Tiernavigationsforschung. Sie hatten eine Förderung in Höhe von 54,7 Millionen Euro beantragt. 🌊 Gemeinsam mit der University of Bremen war die Universität Oldenburg außerdem in der Meeresforschung mit dem Exzellenzcluster „Ocean Floor“ erfolgreich. Die beantragte Fördersumme beläuft sich auf 54,2 Millionen Euro. 🏅 Das heutige erfolgreiche Abschneiden in der Förderlinie Exzellenzcluster stellt zugleich die Weichen für eine mögliche Förderung als Exzellenzuniversität ab dem Jahr 2027. Very pleased to share the upcoming panel, ‘Seabed Imaginaries / knowing distant seabed through representations’, that I’ve been working on with artist Anna Pasco Bolta. The event coincides with her forthcoming solo show, which promises to be a good one 😉 If you’re about, please drop by! 1st June at 4pm Galerie Herold Bremen, Germany Theme: The seabed beyond national jurisdictions, known as The Area, is located on average 4km below the ocean’s surface, and begins around 370km offshore. The Area is a remote and largely unreachable space that nevertheless has been represented and abstracted through a range of media; from storytelling practices and oral histories to scientific imaging processes. This panel considers how these ‘seabed imaginaries’ frame the seabed and the benthic environment, from deathscape to lifeworld to resource deposit and beyond. The panellists will further explore how representations of the seabed have potential consequences, impacting both how we understand a place beyond our personal encounter and the types of futures we envision for it. 📣 #MTTM Dr. Iva Veseli is a postdoc working with Dr. A. Murat Eren in the Ecosystem Data Science group at HIFMB Oldenburg. Within C-CoMP, Iva writes software to help answer core and fundamental questions about microbial ecology 🦠 using big sequencing datasets from the ocean 🌊 . The software that Iva develops is used to analyze microbial sequencing data and generate hypotheses about microbial metabolic capacities for further exploration. Iva is interested in all things microbial - spanning environments from the human gut to the water column - but is very interested in the coral microbiome; microbes are so important for corals 🪸, yet there is still so much we don't know about the roles they play within corals!
